§ 14-253. National Electrical Code and standards—Adoption.

  • (a)

    The following codes, pamphlets and specifications are hereby adopted, authentic copies of which are filed with the city secretary, as a part of this article, and shall govern and be observed and followed in all electrical wiring, and in the construction, installation, repair, alteration, operation and maintenance of electrical wiring, apparatus or fixtures:

    (1)

    The 2017 National Electrical Code; and

    (2)

    The 2017 National Electrical Safety Code.

    In case of conflict between the provisions of the standards listed in subsections (a)(1), (2) above and the provisions of this Code, the provisions of this Code shall prevail.

    (b)

    All installations of electrical wiring, materials and equipment shall be reasonably safe to persons and property and in conformity with this article and all applicable ordinances, rules and regulations issued by the authority hereof.

    (c)

    In case of conflict between the provisions of the standards listed in subsection (a)(1)—(3) of this section and the provisions of this article, the provisions of this article shall prevail.

    (d)

    This section shall not conflict with regulations governing the use of equipment owned and used by communication agencies in the generation, transmission or distribution of electricity or for the operation of signals or the transmission of intelligence.

    (e)

    The building official may authorize the installation of special wiring, materials and methods when requested in writing.

    (f)

    When the building official for good and justifiable reasons finds it necessary to suspend or revoke the approval of certain materials or wiring immediately, the suspension or revoking of approval shall not become effective until 30 days after the date of the notice.
